Scientists claim success with Spallation Neutron Source

Posted on April 29, 2006 by Bjorn Knoxley

The world’s most powerful source of neutrons and the nation’s largest civilian science project has been deemed a success after achieving a millisecond of neutron production at the Spallation Neutron source facility at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. After years of production and billions of dollars invested, the scientific team seemed pleased to have proven their point that the project was completely doable. Soon after, they shrugged their shoulders and collectively moved on to other projects. “We’ve shown the world what we could do…” stated one of the more outgoing research scientists. “I just don’t want to mess with this any more.”
