Next month, a statue of John Denver will be unveiled at McGhee Tyson Airport. Denver was the ever-popular singer of such tunes as “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Calypso.” The statue, made of some sort of metal, will stand at the head of the fountain in the airport terminal entryway, just before the security checkpoint. He will vigilantly overlook the passengers as they scurry up the hallway making their way to have their shoes scanned, while ensuring children do not remove the potato-like rocks from the fountain and roll them down the slope. He is rumored to be replacing Lofty McCloud as the airport’s mascot.
