City officials announced today that the Abu Dhabi investment council has set plans in motion to acquire Knoxville’s landmark, the Sunsphere. The deal will bring an estimated $18,000 dollars to Knoxville coffers, more than double the estimated value of the building. The Sunsphere, which has defined the Knoxville skyline (for those driving in from just the right angle) since the 1982 World’s Fair, is to be converted to a money silo for Abu Dhabi.
